For Lelouch Vi, a seasoned competitor in the Street Class of GTA, AKA Global Time Attack, SLB, AKA Super Lap Battle, the quest for speed and precision led him to Zintilon, a leading provider of rapid prototyping and precision manufacturing services. GTA, AKA Global Time Attack, the fastest street cars in North America, compete for the fastest overall lap time at COTA!

Global Time Attack is comprised of a team of leaders in the tuner, time attack and traditional motorsports fields. The team produced the very first North American time attack way back in 2004. They were the crew chiefs back in the early days of the Honda FWD drag movement and the event coordinators of the world’s most successful tuner magazine. They were a part of the largest import car show series ever.

The first step GTA took in creating a major international time attack challenge. Where the best from Australia, Asia, and Europe come to battle the best of North America! The ultimate time attack challenge. Racing against the clock at COTA, Austin, Texas. The Ultimate Time Attack Challenge.

About CIRCUIT OF AMERICA

It’s a race against the clock. The fastest lap time overall in each class wins. The rules are relaxed to encourage innovation. Cars must be mass production road road-going vehicles by a recognized manufacturer with a VIN number. Tube chassis, open wheel, and factory-built race cars are not allowed in traditional time attack classes

Global Time Attack divides the competitors into 4 traditional time attack classes:

The Challenge: High-Performance Components for Time Attack Racing

Lelouch Vi, a professional and passionate racing driver, often featured in Global Time Attack livestreams & races. There is a challenge common among enthusiasts: components need to not only meet the rigorous demands of high-speed racing but also offer the precision and durability required to stay ahead of the competition. His aerodisc body, made of PA/Nylon, and the disc’s backing plate, made from carbon fiber, require engineered exact specifications to ensure optimal performance.

Motorsports are inherently dangerous. All components should meet the Vehicle Technical Rules & Safety Regulations. Zintilon, with its state-of-the-art facilities and a team of skilled engineers, was the perfect partner for Lelouch’s project. The company’s capabilities in CNC machining, 3D printing, and surface finishing made it an ideal choice for producing the high-performance components needed for time attack racing.

Aerodiscs Body: Precision and Aesthetics Combined

The aerodisc body, made from PA/Nylon, required a combination of strength, lightweight properties, and a sleek appearance. Lelouch Vi used to get the aerodisc fitment from 3D printing ABS. After evaluation with engineers, we decided on Nylon 6/6 (PA66) material instead of ABS, CNC machining instead of 3D printing, so as to be more resistant to the heat generated by the brakes. Zintilon’s CNC machining services were instrumental in achieving the precise dimensions and tolerances. The surface finishing process, including painting, UV coating, and CNC engraving, is not only for aesthetics but also a protective layer against the harsh conditions of the racetrack.

The engraving, which reads “DESIGNED BY SENTTEHCE ENGINEERING, MFG by Zintilon,” is a testament to the collaboration between the engineering team and Zintilon, highlighting the blend of design and manufacturing excellence.

Disc’s Backing Plate: Strength and Durability

The Disc’s Backing Plate, made from carbon fiber, is a 10 mm-thick critical component that requires exceptional strength and durability. Zintilon’s expertise in handling carbon fiber materials and their “as-machined” surface finishing process ensured that the backing plate met the stringent requirements of time attack racing. The precision machining allowed for a perfect fit and integration with the other components, contributing to the overall performance of Lelouch’s vehicle.

Zintilon made both CNC and 3D printed aerodisc bodies. I finally choose the CNC aerodisc body. The CNC machined aerodisc boby‘s color looks like matte finish. Zintilon suggests painting it to be black glossy finish, leading to such a cool aerodisc part. I really appreciate the technical cooperation with Zintilon for the heat-resistent performance and aesthetics.
